Back in Tommy's room, Tommy and Alice sit cross-legged on Tommy's floor, talking.
ALICE: "Say Tommy. I wanna ask you something."
TOMMY: "Okay."

Continue scene.
ALICE: "What is it that has you so scared all the time?"
TOMMY: "I'm not--"
Panel C
Continue scene.
ALICE: "Yes you are. Doorways don't open onto the Nacre Expanse unless the person on this side is generating a lot of power."
TOMMY: "Power?"

Continue scene. Alice seems concerned. Tommy hangs his head.
ALICE: "Yeah, power. And unless you are secretly some ancient wizard who's studied magic for a few centuries, the only thing that can do that is fear."

Continue scene.
ALICE: "So what is it kiddo? What are you so afraid of?"

Continue scene. Alice looks sad. Tommy doesn't look up at her when he speaks.
TOMMY: "My parents."
