FLASHBACK to young Johnny Handsome, age eight, cowering in his closet and peeking out into his bedroom.
HANDSOME: "Did these things protect you?"
Panel B
FLASHBACK continues. Little Johnny's room, "typical middle-class" little boys room. His parents are tied up on his bed (just as he has tied up Sarah's parents). A man with a gun is ransacking the room, breaking all of Johnny's things.
MAN WITH GUN (shouting): "Where is it?"
HANDSOME: "Did they keep you safe from the man with the gun?"
Panel C
FLASHBACK continues. The man with the gun pulls a small brown package from the ruins of Johnny's dresser.
MAN WITH GUN: "Here we are."
HANDSOME: "Did their promises comfort you when your whole world was shattered like glass?"
Panel D
FLASHBACK continues. The man with the gun shoots both of Johnny's parents as they lay tied up in the bed. Johnny is watching from the closet.
MAN WITH GUN: "Thanks. So much."
HANDSOME: "Or did they just sit there and watch like the hollow dolls they are?"
Panel E
FLASHBACK continues. Johnny's weeping attracts the man's attention, alerting him to the boy's presence.
MAN WITH GUN: "Who is this?"
HANDSOME: "Did your parents prepare you for the end of the world?"
Panel F
FLASHBACK continues. Johnny cowers before the man with the gun. But the man just smiles and tosses the pistol in little Johnny's lap.
MAN WITH GUN: "Here kid. Play with this."
HANDSOME: "Did your parents prepare you for the day they died?"
